Senior Surgical Technologist - CVOR Duration: 13 weeksInterv
Description: Under direction and supervision of the Registered
Nurse and Surgical Team members, responsible for the handling of
surgical instruments, supplies and equipment necessary during
general to moderately complex surgical procedures. Ensures
understanding of the assigned surgical procedures being performed
and anticipates the needs of the assigned surgeon and surgical team
members. Also provides service support related to patient
preparation, patient transport, and assisting surgical care team
with specific patient care duties to meet safety and comfort needs.
Responds to emergent situations according to established
procedures. PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Demonstrates
and applies knowledge of advanced surgical techniques2. Scrubs on
complex surgical procedures such as:a. Liver & Multi-visceral Organ
Transplantsb. Endovascular Valve Replacement and/or Aneurysm
Repair, TeVAR, FeVARc. Cardiac Surgical Team Membershipd. Ability
to scrub cases involving Cardiopulmonary Bypass e. HIPEC3.
Demonstrates critical thinking skills in relation to anticipating
the perioperative needs of the patient and surgeon. 4. Prepares the
operating room by setting table, instruments and supplies according
to type of surgery. 5. Assures proper functioning of instruments
and equipment prior to use and reports needed repairs
appropriately.6. Follows established departmental policies and
procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety,
environmental and infection control standards, and reports and
corrects non-compliance.7. Displays cost-consciousness in the
opening of sterile supplies and in the care and handling of
surgical instruments.8. May assist RN in admitting, transferring,
and discharging patients in the OR9. May assist RN in positioning
and prepping patients10.Maintains a safe and clean room
environment; keeps room free from clutter, cleans and stocks rooms,
returns equipment and supplies to designated storage locations,
helps maintain cleanliness of assigned areas.11.Provides comfort
and support for pre-operative patients by demonstrating sensitivity
to patient s care and privacy.12.Exhibits a higher level of
collaboration with peers in making decisions related to surgical
patient care.13.Responds to emergent situations according to
established procedures and communicates in collaboration with the
surgical team14. Maintains established departmental policies and
procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety,
environment standards.15. Actively participates in the shared
governance/process to promote team practice.16. Supports
administrative and unit governance changes to job role and unit
operations. 17. Participates in discussions with the Unit
Manager/Supervisor regarding job enrichment and career
progression.18. Completes required education in a timely manner and
participates in on-going department specific educational
programs.19. Trains/precepts new employees and students in
accordance with assigned orientation/curriculum20. Actively
participates in audit monitors and department task forces.21.
Recognizes and participates in continuing education.22. Performs

Schedule: YesOn-Call: Yes (48 hours of call per six week schedule.
Must be available 1 weekend per month)Skills:
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED: Current BLS certification
required or become BLS certified within one month of start date.
Surgical Technologist certification required or 3-5 years of
experience supporting complex high acuity surgical volume, as
defined above, in lieu of a certification. Must meet or exceed core
